Our First Time Exploring Mercato Sant’Ambrosio!

The market was busy when we got there. People weaving through the isles, vendors calling out, and the smells of fresh vegetables, fish, and bread filled the air.

You can tell this was where locals shop every day, it was very different to the typical markets we’ve been seeing. We moved slowly through the market, taking in everything. The stalls were overflowing with vegetables, fruit, bread, meat, and cheese. We went through long isles which had many varieties of fish and meat. There were big blocks of cheese and baskets filled with seasonal produce. Everything was fresh; it was nothing like you would see in a grocery store back home.

The part that stood out most was how personal the market felt. Vendors weren’t just selling; they were talking with customers, laughing, and catching up like old friends. It gave the place a welcoming atmosphere, even with us just passing through not getting anything. By the time we left, the market had given us more than just a look at food, but how it fits into everyday life in Florence. It wasn’t only about what was being bought; it was about the relationships and daily routines that give the market its life.
