Dini Caffe: A Trip to the Historic Coffee Factory In Florence!

The social media social food class took a trip to the historic dini caffe in Florence! This experience was very eye opening to see how the process is from one small coffee bean to an amazing cup of espresso. This company prides themselves in not only delivering a delectable cup of coffee, but also ensuring that the production behind it is just as amazing! We learned how even though Italy does not cultivate its own coffee, they are the creators of the espresso. Espresso is rich in flavor and in its density to enhance all the notes and flavor it obtains. The making of an espresso is a very technical and unique process. An espresso has to be made with the perfect amount of coffee grounds, 14 grams. It has to be packed into the filter to be able to create the delectable coffee foam that sits right on top of the brew. We also learned how to tell if a coffee is low quality; if the coffee is bitter to the taste that means it is burned in the process. If a coffee is low quality, it will have a higher caffeine level than a coffee with a higher quality in its roast.

History:

Dini Caffe was founded in 1939 thanks to Alberto Dini and is now run by his granddaughter Serena! They had moved their location up to the mountains for a safer position away from the 1966 flood. They pride themselves in sourcing very unique and special coffee beans from all over the world. Some places may include different countries in South America, like Brazil! Serena pours in so much time and energy into the creation of the perfect blend and has become an expert coffee taster! Dini caffe ensures the highest quality products since they are sure to select the best beans to put into their coffee blends!

Process:

They create different blends that may include up to 2,000 different aromas in their coffees! Dini caffe sources from coffee farms that treat their workers right and are ethical in the way the conduct business. At dini caffe they take the coffee beans and then use pressure to emulsify it into the espresso powder itself. They curate a blend by taking from different countries and including different aromas for the best flavor.
