Morocco Travel Tips: Marrakesh & the Sahara

Our Tour: Get Your Guide

Our Hostel: Central House

Cash is essential: Bring euros and exchange them for dirhams at the airport for the best rates. Ask for small bills and coins for bathrooms. Many places accept cards but cash is important for bargaining in the souks or for outside of the city.

Snacks & food: Bring protein bars or meal replacements for long bus rides. Not everyone loves Moroccan food, so snacks save you when options are limited

Water safety: Tap water is not safe. Use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, and avoid water getting in your mouth while showering. Bottles are cheap and easily available.

Clothing: Pack layers for unpredictable weather. White outfits are great for desert photos. Wear sweats for bus days, high socks for sand dunes, and modest clothing out of respect for local customs, especially if you are visiting during Ramadan.

Desert activities: ATVs are a must do (cash only). Camel rides can be scary but save your legs for the sand- walking on the dunes is tough. Sandboarding is super fun but the high socks will help you to keep unwanted sand out of your shoes

Travel logistics:  Flights and bus rides take time. Plan downtime and snacks beforehand. Breakfasts at hotels are great but lunch is often extra so budget accordingly.

Respect & culture: Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country. Cover up, be mindful of Ramadan, avoid loud or inappropriate behavior and remember not all locals love tourists.

Extras: Portable chargers are essential during desert camps, and bring cash for small stops and trips. Overall, plan smart, pack well and embrace the adventure!
